EV Technologies: SAP Business Objects Inspection

  • Eric Vallo, Business Objects Certified Professional
Business Objects Administrators are forced to wear many hats. They must have at least some understanding of the operating systems in which Business Objects runs, an understanding of how the Business Objects architecture functions, and be able to support both the technology and the users that utilize it. Often times those Administrators are also responsible for providing utilization and capacity metrics to IT leadership, the business, or IT capacity planning groups. By itself this activity can be time consuming and in Business Objects XI, this information is not available in a reportable or repeatable fashion with out-of-the-box technology.

A few questions you SHOULD be able to ask of your Business Objects deployment in order to effectively manage it include:

  • Who are the system's power users?
  • Which users are using the system ineffectively?
  • Which reports may be causing performance issues in Business Objects?
  • What is the make-up of the corporate report inventory in Business Objects?
  • What destinations are the users leveraging?
  • What is the universe impact from table/column changes?
These questions just scrape the surface. Join the local Business Objects User Group chapter to see the how EV Technologies has created an innovative solution to provide answers to those questions.
